I have finally arrived at the right time to walk away from the Dean's office of the Else School of Management and hand the keys over to another. Over the last year, I have been amazed as I have listened to updates on what our business faculty has been involved in, and the programs that are underway at the Else School. Like many of you have, our Else students are studying the foundations of business in the classroom. These students are also working with small businesses in the Midtown area as consultants, assisting the HOPE credit union set up customer accounts in a rural market, surveying for retail needs, working with financial firms, interning with firms all over the capital area, and traveling on international learning programs. I have a deep sense of pride in our faculty, students, mentors, and community partners. The Else School of Management at Millsaps College is something special: one of only eight AACSB accredited business schools at colleges with Phi Beta Kappa Chapters, and continuing to receive accolades from national observers. The Else School is a nurturer of well educated young people, with liberal arts depth and business education skills. Thank you for your support.
I urge you to step in and support the new Dean, a familiar face, Dr. Kimberly Burke. She has been the Assistant Dean for six years and a member of the Accounting faculty for 17 years. She has been part of the creation of excellence at the Else School. I ask that you support her with your presence at Else programs, your willingness to serve and advise, and your continued monetary generosity. Your gifts are a vital ingredient in what we are able to offer the students and the community.
After a brief sabbatical, I will return to the Else School of Management in my original position of Executive in Residence, a volunteer role I relish. Come see me.
As Garrison Keiller is known to say, "Be well, do good work, and keep in touch."
Sincerely,
Howard L. McMillan, Jr., Dean
